The HnR Story
I was probably in high school when my mother on a lazy Saturday morning looked up at me from the classifieds section of her newspaper and uttered the iconic statement, "They're offering a flower making course at the community center, you should go". She was a hard act to follow, my mother. Though she never took her creative streak to a commercial level, my father never wore a shirt that she had not made nor do I remember ever eating store bought jam. She made everything from sweaters to home decorations, all of this while raising 8 children and not a lot of money.
I ended up going to those flower making classes, which were subsequently followed by an embroidery class, doll making classes, sewing, cooking, glass painting and so on and so forth. Cakes and desserts were one course in the long list of exploratory creative avenues. It wasn't until I moved to Canada in 1996 with my husband that the idea of making desserts as a profession ever became an option. Though there are numerous bakeries in the GTA, I found myself in a position to offer something new, something different. A loving touch, a personal connection, a little taste of all my experiences from around the world. Whether it is the Bread pudding from the shores of Karachi, the Kunafa from the sands of Arabia or a New York style cheese cake, I hope you enjoy eating it as much as I have enjoyed making it.
Bon appétit,
Humera
